May 2013
Dear Parent/Carer
Regular attendance is essential for all our students to make good progress, achieve their academic potential and consequently have better chances in life. We are proud of the improved attendance data in recent years and we are keen to see this trend improve even further. At the Roundhill Academy we are always striving to improve standards and raise achievement for all our students. For this reason we have taken the decision to no longer authorise holidays during term time. This decision will take effect at the beginning of new academic year from Thursday 29th August 2013.
Every student at The Roundhill Academy, in line with Government expectations, is expected to maintain an attendance level of 95% and above. It is the responsibility of everyone in a school community – parents, students, staff and governors to ensure that this is achieved. Therefore, we monitor the attendance of our learners constantly and will contact you if we have any concerns.
Even short periods of absence can have a detrimental effect and disrupt the continuity of learning. A ten day holiday means a student misses 50 lessons which will have a negative impact on their progress. We appreciate that children are unwell from time to time and there can be exceptional circumstances, but we ask that you think carefully about keeping your child out of school.
Our whole school attendance target is 95%.

Thank you in advance for your support.
Yours sincerely
Helen Blythe
