Mr Hanif Asmal – Chair of Governors
The Roundhill Academy
997 Melton Road
Co-opted Governor (Chair of Governors)
I have lived in the Syston area for many years, and have had 2 children that have attended The Roundhill Academy. I became a parent governor when my first child attended Roundhill In 2004. Prior to this, I have been a governor in many city and county schools. I am still the chair of a city primary school.
I have retired after 30 years as a Science teacher. During my time in the education sector, I have acquired a great deal of experience by attending many courses as a teacher and a governor and worked with many people in all sectors of education. I hope to continue to provide a good service with this wealth of experience to The Roundhill Academy as Chair.
Co-opted Governor (Vice-Chair of Governors)
I have been a member of staff at The Roundhill Academy since November 1979 and a Staff governor for a significant number of those.
I have been part of the many changes to The Roundhill Academy in recent years; the conversion to an academy and more recently the conversion to an 11-16 school.
The school has always striven to give students a good foundation, both educationally and as individuals and I have been pleased (and excited) to be part of the team which has supported this aim.
I am proud of the achievements of the staff and pupils at The Roundhill Academy in education, sport and all of the many activities in which they are involved. I am keen to continue to contribute to the long-term development of the school where pupils are motivated to achieve to the best of their ability.
I am a firm believer in inclusive comprehensive education and think that a strong school should be at the heart of the local community providing education and development for all.
I worked in education for over twenty years as an English specialist and started at Roundhill in April 2018. I believe my experience in education will ensure I can support the school as a staff governor. I feel privileged to be working in a school with a real sense of community and a wonderful, supportive staff and am looking forward to working alongside the governors . I enjoy reading, painting, history and writing.
I became a Governor in March 2018. My career is in Human Resources and I have worked in the charity sector with ChildLine and later in the University sector both in London and Leicester.
I joined the Board of Governors in January 2018. I live in Syston and my daughter started at The Roundhill Academy in 2017. I am a Chartered Accountant and until July 2020 I was Group Finance Director of Poundstretcher. I am now self employed as a specialist tax advisor. I hope to be able to make a contribution to the success of The Roundhill Academy through my involvement as a Parent Governor.
I am pleased to have been elected as a Parent Governor in January 2018. In my professional life I work as a Compliance Officer for HMRC. I have two children, who attend The Roundhill Academy. In my personal life I have a passion for cooking, not quite to Masterchef standards as yet. I have a keen interest in the learning, progress and attainment of all pupils and as a parent I am passionate in my desire to help achieve the best possible schooling experience for the children at The Roundhill Academy.
